On Thursday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia sentenced Cedric Carr, 34, to 33 months in prison for possessing a firearm while on supervised release. Court documents revealed that the incident occurred on October 27, 2024, when Carr was apprehended by Metropolitan Police officers outside the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station while clutching a bottle of red wine and attempting to conceal a Smith & Wesson revolver in his belt. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the U.S. District Court Judge assigned to the case additionally ordered Carr to spend an additional three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

The confrontation began when authorities noticed Carr drinking in public. A normal inquiry for identification resulted in the swift discovery of the firearm, which was proven to have been stolen from Atlanta, according to a statement from the US Attorney’s Office. This incident occurred while Carr was already on supervised release for a previous 2018 conviction in which he was sentenced to 84 months for using a handgun during a crime of violence.

The firearm possession plea was recorded on February 20, and Carr received his sentence in October. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Attorney for the case, Jeanine Ferris Pirro, released the details and highlighted the Metropolitan Police Department’s cooperative investigation, which led to Carr’s retrial.

In a photo from a police body camera, Carr attempts to demonstrate how swiftly officers responded when they stopped him before the situation worsened. Their quick response helped to protect the public. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael L. Barclay, demonstrating the government’s determination to deal harshly with repeat offenders, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
