On Saturday night, Portland police intervened in a handful of scuffles at the South Portland Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.

Officers arrested one person, 51-year-old Preston Reyes of Gresham, on charges of misdemeanor harassment after alleging he spit on another. According to authorities, Reyes fled the scene at first but was subsequently apprehended.

According to the news release, police observed several people “spraying each other with irritant spray.”

Officers stated that they interviewed many people for “potential future prosecution.”

Minor clashes at the Portland ICE facility occurred after a peaceful march at Tom McCall Waterfront Park earlier in the day, which required “minimal” law enforcement action, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Protests outside the facility have been quiet recently. A few dozen individuals often attend protests on weeknights. The crowds tend to grow larger on weekends.

The ICE facility has arrested 68 people in connection with demonstrations since June.
