A former nonprofit director of a prison reentry program has been sentenced to prison after stealing over $200,000 from the organization and donors.
Thomas Ostrosky, 52, was sentenced to 10-13 years in jail, according to a spokesperson.
Ostrosky stole from an organization whose donors included elderly Ohioans.
“He didn’t just steal money; he deprived the community of a helping hand for inmates seeking a fresh start as law-abiding citizens,” stated Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
On November 12, Ostrosky pleaded guilty to felony counts, including participating in a pattern of corrupt action, stealing from a person in a protected class, solicitation fraud, and telecommunications fraud.
In addition to the prison sentence, Ostrosky must pay $207,650 in restitution, which will be disbursed to charities, according to Yost.
He is also prohibited from having a position of trust or managing the finances of others.
Ostrosky was charged in April and jailed in Dade City, Florida, following an investigation by Yost’s Charitable Law Section.
In 2017, Ostrosky ran the Lazarus Experience, from which he stole almost $200,000.
The Lazarus Experience was a Christian ministry that offered reentry services to jailed males in Northwest Ohio. It is no longer in existence.
