A Mississippi woman has been sentenced in a ballot harvesting case, Attorney General Lynn Fitch stated Monday.

According to Fitch, in July 2023, Bobbie Peoples of Greenwood knowingly collected and transmitted a ballot mailed to another person when she was not legally permitted to do so.

She was sentenced to six months in custody with time suspended and a $2,718 fine.

“Free and fair elections are a pillar of our democracy,” Fitch told reporters. “Ballot harvesting undermines trust in the fairness of our elections, and we must be vigilant to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.”
