The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for wide sections of West Virginia, northeast Kentucky, and southeast Ohio, warning of continuous snowfall and hazardous driving until Monday evening.

The NWS predicts additional snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 4 inches, with localized totals of up to 5 inches likely in higher ridges in Raleigh, Nicholas, Fayette, and Randolph counties. In lower elevations, such as Charleston, Huntington, and Spencer, accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected before tapering off late this afternoon.

The alert also includes Kentucky’s Boyd, Carter, and Greenup Counties, as well as Ohio’s Lawrence County, where roads and bridges could quickly become slick and icy.

Forecasters warn that the morning and evening commutes may be disrupted as snow persists throughout the day before gradually clearing tonight. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, keep an extra stopping space, and check 511 or local transportation websites for current conditions.

Subfreezing temperatures overnight may cause refreezing and black ice, particularly on untreated secondary roads and steep surfaces.
