Five people were arrested early Wednesday morning after a police chase that began in East Hanover and ended in Montville, according to the East Hanover Police Department.

East Hanover Police Officer Cerese and her training officer, Officer Panzarino, discovered a stolen Audi Q5 while patrolling residential neighborhoods at 1:00 a.m. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Newark. An attempted traffic check on Ridgedale Avenue northbound toward Route 280 swiftly escalated when the car fled, sparking a pursuit by multiple East Hanover Police Department (EHPD) officers.

During the chase, the fleeing vehicle collided with a curb, resulting in a flat tire and decreasing its speed. The pursuit continued throughout surrounding communities, culminating in Montville, where all five passengers exited the disabled vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

EHPD officers quickly captured two suspects. The remaining three were apprehended thanks to the efforts of many municipal and county agencies. One suspect attempted to elude arrest by jumping into a pond but was promptly apprehended with the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.

The accused were taken to the East Hanover Police Department for processing. Qumarrye Richardson, 19, of Bloomfield, and three youths were charged and later freed. A fifth suspect, Quadee Tubbs, 19, of Irvington, was brought to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

The East Hanover Police Department thanked the Parsippany Police Department, Montville Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, North Caldwell Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and the New Jersey State Police for their coordinated cooperation.

Authorities noted that a criminal complaint is only an accusation. All defendants are deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
