A Duquesne man is facing many counts after police reported that an 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after using narcotics.
According to the criminal complaint, UPMC Children’s Hospital called the Allegheny County Police Department about a juvenile patient who tested positive for a cocaine metabolite. According to hospital officials, the child was admitted on December 18 after passing out at school.
A hospital social worker informed police that the boy’s parents drove him to the hospital, signed consent documents for treatment, and then left shortly after. According to investigators, officers later identified the suspects and conducted a search warrant at a home in Duquesne’s 900 block of Wool Avenue.
Police said one of the boy’s parents, I’edoniae Cole, 32, told them the toddler awoke that morning “feeling off.” Cole stated that the youngster was given Tylenol and sent to school, where he apparently passed out about five minutes after arriving.
During the search, police said they found a considerable number of narcotics, including heroin/fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia. Three handguns were also discovered, one of which was previously reported stolen. According to investigators, many youths living in the home had access to the drugs and firearms.
Cole faces charges of aggravated assault, possession with intent to deliver, endangering the welfare of minors, receiving stolen property, and other felonies.
