An Indiana lottery player is celebrating a $1 million jackpot after matching five numbers in the Powerball drawing on Christmas Eve, officials said.
The drawing resulted in a single jackpot-winning ticket sold in Arkansas, which won the $1.82 billion grand prize. The jackpot was estimated to be worth $1.817 billion following ticket sales, making it the second-largest lottery jackpot ever won in the United States. The only bigger jackpot was a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won in California in November 2022.
While Indiana did not produce a jackpot winner, one ticket sold in the state matched all five white balls, winning $1 million. Indiana was one of eight states with $1 million winners, including California, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and two winners in New York.
The winning numbers on Wednesday night were 4, 25, 31, 52, and 59, with Powerball 19.
The jackpot has been reset to its beginning sum of $20 million for the next drawing, which is planned for Saturday. Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are available in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. According to Powerball authorities, the odds of winning the jackpot are about one in 292.2 million.
