Police are searching for the gunman who opened fire in the Bronx, killing one and wounding a 14-year-old boy.

It occurred soon before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 7th floor hallway of Adee Avenue in Allerton.

Officers were in and out of Eastchester Gardens all night, looking for clues that could lead them to the perpetrators who opened fire.

The shooting occurred directly outside Leon Stafford’s door.

“I was sitting in my room studying when I heard ‘bang, bang, bang’ three times, right? When I raced to the door, I saw three individuals racing downstairs near the staircase, and then I noticed someone holding my doorknob, so I shoved him out of the way,” Stafford explained.

Stafford works as a security guard at a local nursing home and is weary of returning home and feeling unsafe in his own building.

“When I come back at 12 a.m., I notice kids relaxing in the park. That shouldn’t happen. “That is completely unacceptable because this neighborhood is not the wisest due to gangs, kids hanging out, and the constant use of gun violence,” adds Stafford.

“We lost somebody young in front of the building like a year ago,” said Ray, a resident.

Unfortunately, residents report that this is becoming more common. One man heard the shots and assumed they were coming from outside, recalling a recent gang war, before realizing they had gone off a few stories above him.

Stafford wants to see police presence more frequently.

“Gangs have been a problem in the neighborhood for around 20 years. So I believe that if law enforcement had a little more presence, these incidents would be reduced,” he continued.

He thinks that increased police presence will dissuade people from hitting the trigger.

There have been no arrests made.

Police are searching for many suspects.
