A South Bend Police officer has been arrested following an off-duty incident on Wednesday.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Trent Way in South Bend at 3:30 a.m. to look into a possible domestic dispute.

When officers arrived, they spoke with a female victim who reported that her husband had become physical during an altercation.

When the arriving officers discovered the suspect was a South Bend Police officer, they asked St. Joseph County Police to take over the investigation.

St. Joseph County Police responded and arrested Robert Neufer, 29, on a preliminary charge of Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child.

Neufer is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail pending a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

He has been relieved of duty, pending additional criminal and internal investigations.
