Indy Man Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison For Rape And Kidnapping

A convicted rapist has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison on felony counts of kidnapping and domestic battery.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Adam Bell will serve 16 years in prison after being convicted of the following counts last month:

  • Rape (Level 3 Felony)
  • Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony)
  • Stalking (Level 5 Felony)
  • Kidnapping (Level 6 Felony)
  • Two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felonies)

On March 10, 2024, police became aware of Bell after a lady submitted a report saying that he had raped her. Detectives went to the woman’s apartment in the 7800 block of Knue Road to begin an investigation.

The woman said Bell raped her while they were in his vehicle in the parking lot and fled the scene before authorities arrived. As the investigation progressed, investigators discovered evidence that Bell had broken the victim’s protection order against him by persistently phoning and messaging her on Facebook in the weeks preceding the sexual assault.

The victim also described another horrific incident in which Bell told her he was “following her,” although she had no idea where he was, court documents indicated. The woman went on to say that when she drove into the parking lot on Knue Road, Bell emerged in his silver Nissan Sentra and parked next to her car.

According to court filings, Bell grabbed the victim’s arm and covered her lips while she screamed. He threw her to the ground, preventing her from accessing her phone. Bell then lifted her up and placed her in his car.

Once inside his vehicle, the victim claims Bell grabbed her by the throat and used so much force that she struggled to breathe and “saw stars.”

The woman claimed she attempted to defend herself by punching Bell in the face several times to get him off of her. Bell then reportedly stated, “Let me have sex with you, and I’ll leave.” The woman informed police that Bell continued to force himself on her. While raping the lady, Bell allegedly asked her, “Why aren’t you enjoying it?”

The victim remembers attempting to exit the van during the assault but being unable to do so because both back doors were child-locked. Following the incident, the woman contacted 911 to report it.

Detectives also executed a search warrant on Bell’s phone, discovering numerous threatening messages that he allegedly sent to her. Bell informed the victim in one of these texts that he wished she would “crash and die.” In another communication, he stated that he loathed her and that she did not “deserve to live.”

Court documents detailed numerous instances where Bell drove past the victim’s house and sat in the parking lot of her apartment complex. Police encountered Bell while responding to one of these occurrences, and he reportedly fled the scene. Officers eventually called off the pursuit owing to Bell’s “reckless driving and high speeds.”
