A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 45 years in prison for a North Richland Hills home invasion and aggravated robbery with cryptocurrency.
According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, 19-year-old Dallas resident Abdias Espinoza pled guilty to both burglary with the purpose to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery.
He was eventually sentenced to 45 years in prison.
Espinoza was among three people arrested in December 2024 for breaking into a North Richland Hills residence.
Prosecutors claimed the group committed a premeditated armed home invasion in the 5300 block of Tiffin Drive.
They pretended to be delivering meals to the residence before ambushing the victim, pistol-whipping him, threatening to kill his family, and demanding money from his cryptocurrency wallet.
The victim’s wife dialed 911 while hiding with her children. They were not harmed.
The suspects fled the house when they heard police sirens. But they didn’t go very far. North Richland Hills police officers used a K9 and a helicopter from the Fort Worth Police Department to track down the suspects.
Two other suspects were arrested: 18-year-old Rodney Hill of Dallas and a 17-year-old juvenile. They face the same charges as Espinoza.
According to Tarrant County court records, Hill is still awaiting trial, with a hearing scheduled for later this month.
The victim received treatment for his injuries.
