A Pennsylvania man was detained after reportedly leading police on a midday car chase while drunk.
Brian Wilcox, 53, of Milan, was detained following the incident. According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, he allegedly led officers on a police chase that began in Southport and concluded across the Pennsylvania state line.
According to law authorities, the chase began on State Route 328 and then proceeded on Route 14. Wilcox was allegedly speeding and swerving while attempting to flee the following officers. The Sheriff’s Office claims they eventually stopped him on Doty Hill Road and attempted to box him in.
When police stopped him, they stepped out of their cars and attempted to persuade Wilcox to exit his vehicle. Instead, he sped away, side-swiping a patrol car and nearly colliding with a Chemung County Sheriff’s deputy. The pursuit then continued until Wilcox lost control and collided with a tree.
After the crash, Wilcox allegedly struggled with officers before being arrested.
He faces charges of DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply, and several traffic offenses.
The Sheriff’s Office says that once Wilcox answers charges in New York, he will be extradited to Pennsylvania to face additional charges such as aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering another person, flight to avoid apprehension, and driving while intoxicated. d.
Wilcox is now held at the Chemung County Jail without bond.
