A 16-year-old boy was detained in Ohio after police received reports of a threat involving a local school on Thursday, authorities said.
According to a statement from the London Police Department, officers were informed after multiple juvenile witnesses claimed that the teenager allegedly said he would carry out a shooting at London Middle School. According to a police spokesperson, witnesses reported seeing the teen with a gun.
Police requested and executed a search warrant Thursday at the juvenile’s home just outside of London. During the search, officers discovered a modified airsoft toy gun that looked like a small handgun, according to the agency.
Police have alerted the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office and will file criminal charges against the juvenile. The authorities highlighted that there is no imminent threat to the public.
Following the incident, the superintendent of London City Schools sent a note to parents on Thursday, which was also uploaded on social media. The London Police Department continues to conduct the inquiry.
