Villager detained after allegedly stealing jewelry at Brownwood store

A villager has been detained for allegedly stealing jewelry from a store in Brownwood Paddock Square.

Tracey Ann Chartier, 57, of the Village of Monarch Grove, is charged with theft after stealing $600 in bracelets from Kylie’s Closet on January 26, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Chartier allegedly slipped the goods inside her purse. While she was in the store, she told an employee that she worked at Spartina 449 in Brownwood. She boasted about wearing store-bought clothes and claiming to only work three days per week.

After the theft was detected, a manager from Kylie’s took CCTV photographs to Spartina 449, where a manager identified Chartier.

When an officer arrived at Chartier’s home, he spoke with her husband, who stated his wife may be suffering from kleptomania. He claimed she had stolen from stores while they were in Rhode Island. Chartier collected the bag of jewels and turned it over to authorities. The jewelry still had price tags attached to it.

She was arrested on a theft charge and put into the Sumter County Detention Center.
