Cook County Man Charged After Loaded Gun With Extended Mag Discovered During Traffic Stop

A Lynwood man is facing a felony firearms charge after cops discovered a loaded gun and an extended magazine during a traffic stop in Harvey last week.

The stop happened around 8 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the 100 block of West 159th Street, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers apparently stopped a Chevrolet Impala for a traffic offense. As an officer approached the vehicle, they noticed a strong marijuana odor and what seemed to be burnt weed inside.

The driver, 28-year-old Blake McGary, was requested to get out of the car so officers could search for drugs. During the search, officers say they found a loaded weapon with an extended magazine.

According to authorities, McGary did not have an FOID card or a concealed carry license. He was then taken into prison.

Later that night, he was charged with aggravated unauthorized possession of a weapon.

McGary was ordered released from detention after his first court appearance on January 31. It is unknown when he will be back in court.
