On February 5, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Mercersburg Police attempted a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer. The driver failed to yield and fled at a low speed.
Mercersburg Police sought help, and deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, including a K-9 unit, responded to the scene. Deputies were positioned along Mercersburg Road, ready to deploy spike strips.
About four miles from the initial traffic stop attempt, the tractor-trailer stopped at the 3500 block of Mercersburg Road. Mercersburg Police detained the driver promptly, with the assistance of deputies.
During the subsequent investigation, the Sheriff’s Office exercised its 287(g) agreement authority and found that the subject was illegally present in the US. The Sheriff’s Office took control of the man and transferred him to the Franklin County Jail.
