A driver was arrested after hitting a Broward Sheriff’s deputy’s car twice before fleeing outside a gentleman’s club in West Park early Monday, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard near Southwest 58th Avenue, outside the Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office officials, the driver of a Cadillac Escalade was speeding away from the club’s parking area when he lost control and collided with the deputy’s vehicle.

The driver then backed up and slammed the deputy’s vehicle again before leaving, according to officials.

However, the car shortly got dysfunctional, and the driver, Mervin Coffy, 28, was arrested, according to BSO.

Coffy was later arrested on accusations of aggravated battery on an officer, abandoning the scene of a crash resulting in damage, careless driving causing damage to a person or property, false imprisonment, and resisting arrest without violence.

The deputy’s vehicle was extensively damaged and had airbags deployed, according to video footage from the site.

The deputy had minor injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
