Ohio Man Won $50K After Buying the Wrong Lottery Ticket

An Ohio man won $50,000 in the lottery after accidentally purchasing the wrong ticket.

Ron went into a Walmart Supercenter in St. Clairsville, Belmont County, and decided to buy a Mega Millions ticket. According to an Ohio Lottery press release, Ron made the impulsive decision to purchase a Mega Millions ticket after hearing his brother-in-law discuss the draw.

However, after purchasing the ticket, Ron found he had purchased a ticket for Pick 5, a game in which players select five numbers.

Ron’s error paid off: he properly picked all five numbers in the exact precise order for the Feb. 5 drawing, resulting in an official $50,000 win – a one-in-100,000 chance.

Ron informed the Ohio Lottery that he went home and told his wife that they should celebrate with a drink before handing her his winning ticket. He said that she was surprised when she discovered he had won, especially since she is usually the lucky one between them.

The pair will receive $36,625 of the total after taxes, and Ron has told the Ohio Lottery that he intends to use the windfall to treat his grandchildren and donate to his church.

He also stated that he believes the win was “meant to be” — especially since he would not have won if he had not purchased the incorrect ticket.
