A man was apprehended Monday night after deputies discovered him drinking alcohol while sitting in a disabled vehicle on US 33.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped behind a car soon before 9:00 p.m. after discovering it parked on the shoulder with its hazard lights activated.
The driver, 45-year-old Columbus resident John Carmody, had multiple indicators of intoxication.
He had a flat tire and claimed to be waiting for a tow vehicle after leaving a friend’s house in Lima and driving toward Columbus.
While interviewing with Carmody, deputies discovered three cans of beer in the passenger seat, nestled inside a six-pack.
Carmody testified that he began drinking while waiting for the tow truck and consumed three beers over the course of an hour.
He also informed deputies that his driver’s license was suspended.
After exiting the automobile, Carmody failed field sobriety tests.
He was subsequently taken into custody and escorted to the Logan County Jail, where he consented to a breath test.
The results showed a breath alcohol content of 0.122, barely above the legal limit.
After being unable to find transport, Carmody was arrested for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor.
