Police apprehended an 18-year-old on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a fellow student at a school in downtown Toledo the day before, causing him to be hospitalized for his injuries.
Keyvoin Butler was arrested for one count of felonious assault in connection with the incident, which occurred just before 9 a.m. on Monday at Westfield Achievement on Jefferson Avenue. According to a police report, Butler and a 16-year-old fled after assaulting a 17-year-old student when the three were ejected from class. It is unclear at this moment whether the 16-year-old has been arrested.
According to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court on Tuesday, Butler punched and kicked the victim “repeatedly about the head and body, causing the victim to lose consciousness and suffer lacerations, hematomas, and contusions to his face and head.”
According to a Toledo Public Schools official, the victim was recently released from the hospital.
“Administrators at Westfield High School are currently investigating an incident that occurred yesterday morning. Two students assaulted another student in a school stairwell before fleeing the building. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released. School administrators have recommended disciplinary action for the two students involved, including possible expulsion. These students could also face criminal charges. Toledo Public Schools’ number one priority is providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
