Three people are facing various counts for allegedly robbing someone at gunpoint after a crash on a major Phoenix road in January.
On Monday, January 19, shortly after 2:10 a.m., the Department of Public Safety responded to a two-car crash on eastbound Interstate 10 at State Route 51 in Phoenix.
When troopers arrived, they discovered that one of the automobiles involved had fled the scene and that several of its occupants allegedly held others at gunpoint and stole items from their car.
Troopers subsequently passed the matter over to the DPS Major Crimes District for additional investigation.
As the investigation progressed, officers identified Jeremiah E. Davis and Robert T. Gilbert, both 18, of Phoenix, as suspects in the armed robbery, along with a teenage girl.
On February 17, investigators discovered Davis was already in detention at the Maricopa County Jail on other crimes. DPS stated that additional armed robbery charges were proposed against him.
The next day, officers found and arrested Gilbert for his claimed involvement. Then on Tuesday, a 17-year-old girl was arrested on armed robbery charges.
“These arrests underscore the AZDPS Major Crimes District’s commitment to thorough investigative work and to ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are held accountable,” DPS said in a written statement.
