A young woman is accused of running a red light and causing a fatal crash in central Phoenix on Friday afternoon.
Phoenix police arrested Selene Alexandra Garcia Telix, 18, after responding to a crash at 3rd Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered that the other driver, 75-year-old John Stephen Conway, was severely injured. He was transferred to a hospital, where he eventually died.
Telix was also brought to the hospital for less serious injuries.
Detectives suspect Telix was speeding when she ran a red light and crashed into Conway’s car. Police do not feel that impairment was a factor.
Telix was arrested after being released from the hospital and is now facing various criminal counts in connection with the event.
The investigation is underway.
