Suspect apprehended after snatching gold chain from victim’s neck in South Gate

A robbery suspect was apprehended when police discovered him hiding under a blanket inside an nearby building after a chase from a Walmart parking lot in South Gate, authorities said.

Around 7:53 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from the South Gate Police Department responded to complaints of a robbery in the parking lot of a Walmart.

According to authorities, the suspect pretended to have a pistol and forcibly removed a gold chain from the victim’s neck before fleeing.

Witnesses pursued the man as he fled the scene, finally hopping over a fence and entering a huge neighboring building through an open bay door, investigators said.

Officers swiftly established a perimeter around the structure and called in a K-9 team to assist in the search.

During the search, cops discovered the suspect lying beneath a blanket in one of the rooms, according to police.

While booking the suspect, officers discovered the victim’s gold necklace hidden inside his sock. Police claimed the chain was later returned to the victim.

The guy was arrested on robbery and burglary charges, according to authorities.

Authorities did not immediately reveal the suspect’s identity.
