Two individuals were charged with neglect after a 3-year-old was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital after being discovered comatose and bruised all over her body.
According to court documents, Kami Nelson, 23, of East Canton, Ohio, and Lee O’Donnell, 25, of Richmond, were accused in Henry County of the following:
- One count of neglect of a dependent resulting in catastrophic injury, a Level 1 felony
- One count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury, a Level 3 felony
- Misdemeanor drug charge
According to court documents, authorities from the New Castle Police Department received a call of neglect early on March 25 at a rental home on Broad Street in New Castle.

Misdemeanor drug charge on the floor of the rental property, lifeless. A second child was also living in the rental at the time.
According to the paperwork, the infant was severely bruised throughout her body. The infant was first taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
During separate interviews, Nelson, the 3-year-old’s mother, and O’Donnell, a guy Nelson was seeing, allegedly blamed each other for the child’s injuries.
Nelson was arrested at his Broad Street residence on March 25. O’Donnell was arrested after being discovered by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop on Interstate 70.
According to court documents, the two’s pretrial hearing is planned for June 11, with their jury trial on July 20. The bond for Nelson and O’Donnell is set at $191,000 surety plus $12,300 cash.
