One person apprehended for driving under the influence after vehicle crash in Ohio

A Bellefontaine woman was detained Thursday night after a three-vehicle incident at a local intersection, according to police.

Officers and emergency crews were summoned around 8:30 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 1 and Gunntown Road for a reported injury crash involving three vehicles, according to the Bellefontaine Police Department.

When cops arrived, they discovered an Acura, a Honda Accord, and a Honda CR-V involved in the crash. Several people were outside the automobiles, including 48-year-old Kristen Carpenter of Bellefontaine, who was identified as the driver of the Acura.

According to police, Carpenter originally reported chest pain but then informed authorities she was not in pain from the incident and had been ill.

The report states that while conversing with Carpenter, police noticed multiple symptoms of impairment. Carpenter told officers that she was driving and made a turn before colliding with another vehicle, but she wasn’t sure what happened.

According to witnesses, Carpenter turned onto Gunntown Road from County Road 1 and struck the rear of the Honda CR-V before colliding with the Honda Accord.

Officers reported finding an open container of alcohol in the Acura’s center console, as well as an open 30-pack of beer in the back seat.

According to authorities, Carpenter admitted to having “a couple” of beers at a neighborhood restaurant but did not believe she was intoxicated. She refuses to do the field sobriety tests.

Carpenter was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and escorted to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where she refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Her driver’s license was confiscated, and an administrative suspension was issued. Before being brought to the Logan County Jail, she was penalized for driving while intoxicated, making an incorrect turn at an intersection, and having an open container.

The crash is still under investigation.
