One person died and three firefighters were injured in an early-morning house fire in Orange County on Saturday.
Authorities have yet to identify the person who died, but they are working to notify their family. According to a news statement from Middletown’s fire department, the resident was evacuated from the blazing home at 11 Starhaven Ave. and given rapid medical assistance, but he was unable to be revived.
The fire department arrived at the home shortly after 12:51 a.m. Firefighters issued a second alert, requesting assistance from other departments, after arriving and discovering “heavy fire conditions,” according to the department. Slate Hill and Goshen fire departments supported Middletown firefighters on the site. As they worked to put out the fire, they discovered one adult inside.
The fire department reported that three firefighters were evacuated after suffering minor injuries. Two Middletown police officers were sent to Garnet Medical Center for smoke inhalation treatment, according to the department.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within an hour, but the department stayed on the scene until about 4 a.m. “for overhaul and investigation operations,” according to the news release.
