Niagara Falls Woman Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For Fatal Stabbing Of Mother

A Niagara Falls woman has been sentenced to two decades in state prison for the killing of her mother in their Main Street apartment.

According to the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, Seleste Bomberry, 30, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the murder of her mother, 48-year-old Gennie Blackwell.

Prosecutors stated the deadly event took place on March 23, 2025, inside the couple’s apartment on Main Street in Niagara Falls. Authorities decided that an incident between Bomberry and Blackwell evolved into violence, resulting in Blackwell’s fatal stabbing.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman reacted on the case’s end, remarking, “This morning’s sentencing brings this tragic case to its conclusion.”

Bomberry was first charged with second-degree murder after her arrest. However, the issue was eventually resolved with a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter in December 2025, preventing a future trial.

County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek pronounced the sentence.

On the night of the incident, officers from the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a call reporting an attack with a weapon at 1807 Main Street. When authorities arrived, they located an unresponsive woman laying on the floor and arrested a suspect on the spot.

Police attempted life-saving measures before emergency medical personnel arrived, but Blackwell was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators decided that the violence was the result of a quickly escalated disagreement between Bomberry and her mother.

Family and friends characterized Blackwell as a loving mother and grandmother who had recently relocated to Niagara Falls to be closer to her loved ones. Those who knew her stated she focused her life on her children and grandchildren.
