JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities have charged a southern Indiana man with child molesting after investigators say he sexually assaulted a girl on Sunday.
Robert D. Canada, 61, of Norman, was formally charged on April 8 with one count of felony child molesting by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to a statement from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received a report around 2:10 p.m. on Monday, April 6, regarding a sexual assault that allegedly took place during the evening hours of Sunday, April 5, in the town of Norman in Jackson County.
An initial investigation found that Canada allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
After completing the investigation, officers with the Bedford Police Department, along with the investigating deputy, located and arrested Canada on April 7. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office then filed formal charges the next day.
Authorities have not yet released additional details, including Canada’s bond or initial hearing date.
Norman sits about 80 miles south of downtown Indianapolis.
