According to Jackson Township police, the attack occurred just before 8 a.m. on Feb. 17 in the 5100 block of Dressler Rd. NW in the Belden Village area.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman suffering from injuries to her neck, head, and chest.
Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink said first responders transported the woman to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with wounds believed to be life-threatening.
After gathering details about the suspect, police issued a statewide Be On The Look Out (BOLO) alert.
Soon after the alert, deputies with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office located Card’s vehicle near Route 225 and Tallmadge Road.
Card allegedly fled from deputies, triggering a brief pursuit that reached speeds of up to 105 mph.
The chase ended when Card crashed his vehicle into a telephone pole, a tree, and a residence at 5710 on Route 225, according to Jackson Township police.
Chief Brink said investigators believe Card and the woman are in a relationship, though they have not determined a motive at this time.
Authorities are holding Card on a $1 million bond at the Stark County Jail. His next court date has not yet been scheduled.
