AKRON, Ohio — Akron police have charged a security guard accused of raping a woman inside the John F. Seiberling Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse.
Officials say the assault happened last Thursday afternoon in an employee-only weight room inside the building. The accuser, who works at the courthouse, reported the incident to security, who later contacted police.
The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Jason Simmons of Akron. Records show he posted bond and was released from custody last Friday. Authorities have now forwarded the case to a Summit County grand jury.
According to law enforcement, the woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation. 3News has contacted the U.S. Department of Justice’s Northern District of Ohio for comment on the case.
