COLUMBUS, Ohio — The walking lot at John Glenn Columbus International Airport will shut down in May to make way for a new building tied to the airport’s terminal expansion.
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority announced that the lot will permanently close on May 4 to clear space for a new public safety building. This facility is part of CMH Next, the airport’s terminal redevelopment project. It will house the public safety communications center and include office space along with training facilities.
Airport officials are urging travelers who typically rely on the walking lot to consider valet service or other parking options, such as the parking garage or the red and green shuttle lots.
“We know the Walking Lot has its loyal fans and understand this one might sting a bit. We’ll miss it too,” airport representatives wrote in a Facebook post. “This change is part of the exciting progress happening across the airport — bringing us closer to a new terminal and opening day.”
The $2 billion terminal project will introduce a new terminal spanning nearly 1 million square feet. It also includes a new parking garage connected by a pedestrian bridge. According to airport representatives, the terminal is designed to “meet the demands” of the growing Columbus region.
The new Columbus airport terminal is set to open in early 2029.
