Ocala woman killed and 3 others injured after intersection crash

A 49-year-old Ocala passenger was killed, and the driver was ejected and badly injured after their vehicle collided with another vehicle at a nearby junction on Sunday.

The deadly accident happened near the intersection of Pine Road and Hemlock Road in Ocala around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol complaint, an 18-year-old Ocala man was driving a 2021 Infiniti Q50 sedan northbound on Pine Road near Hemlock Road.

At the same time, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra was heading west on Hemlock Road. That automobile was operated by a 38-year-old Ocala guy.

Both vehicles approached the intersection at the same time, causing the Infiniti’s front end to collide with the Elantra’s left side.

Following the incident, the Infiniti drove northeast, striking with a power pole and a metal property fence before coming to a halt. The Elantra came to a stop on the west grass shoulder.

During the crash, the 38-year-old Ocala driver was catapulted from his car and seriously injured. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The passenger, a 49-year-old woman from Ocala, was declared dead on the spot. According to the FHP investigation, the passenger wore a seatbelt during the incident.

The driver of the Infiniti and his passenger, a 21-year-old guy from Ocala, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Both people were wearing seatbelts during the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating this accident.

According to accident data collected by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, 21 fatal crashes have occurred in Marion County this year.
