A Chicago man is charged with murder after a woman was discovered dead inside a South Side home this week.
Officers responded to a well-being check request at 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of East 72nd Street.
Inside the house, they discovered an unresponsive 29-year-old woman. She was strangled and died on the spot, according to the Cook County medical examiner.
Travion Cooper, 30, surrendered to the 2nd District police station on the South Side about two hours later, around 11:25 p.m., according to authorities. He was charged with a felony count of first-degree murder.
It is unclear what caused the event or whether Cooper and the victim had a relationship. Her identify hasn’t been revealed.
Cooper is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing on Thursday.
