Several Bears Spotted Wandering Through Northeast Ohio Yard

A man in Ashtabula County reported seeing several bears wandering near his backyard late Saturday night.

David Knopsider said he noticed the bears around 10 p.m. Saturday at his home in Trumbull Township.

According to Knopsider, one of the bears climbed a tree near the deck, apparently trying to reach bird feeders hanging between the deck and a nearby tree.

By the time he grabbed his phone to record video, the bears had already come back down to the ground.

Knopsider said the animals first wandered off into the woods but returned about 20 minutes later. During the second sighting, he noticed a fourth bear standing near the tree line, roughly 30 yards away from the others.

Black bears are common in Ohio and very active in Ashtabula County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

ODNR reports the majority of black bear sightings in Ohio are in counties on the Pennsylvania border.
