A Central Florida man was sentenced for a heinous crime against a female relative.
The Brevard County case for Assistant State Attorneys Andrew Joy and Christine Babb was based on the victim’s sworn testimony.
The Palm Bay man was sentenced to life in jail after sexually abusing a female relative.
“The victim was brave to testify and stand up to her abuser,” said State Attorney Joy. “The jury found her testimony so powerful that they agreed the defendant was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”
A Brevard County jury convicted 48-year-old Ronnie Davis of one count of sexual battery on a minor by a person with familial or custody authority.
The victim’s mother reported Davis to authorities after receiving a text message on another relative’s phone detailing Davis’ attempted rape.
In follow-up interviews with professionals at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Rockledge, the teenage girl stated that Davis sexually abused her several times in Palm Bay, Orlando, and Cocoa.
Davis contested the claims and charges, resulting in the trial.
Joy praised the victim advocates from the State Attorney’s Office for “doing an incredible job” of leading the victim through the trial process and making her feel safe enough to testify.
During a recent hearing, Circuit Judge Steve Henderson condemned Davis to life in prison and declared him a sexual predator.
