We now have the latest figures on how many speeding tickets the California Highway Patrol issued during its maximum enforcement period earlier this week.
According to the CHP, officers handed out 11,767 speeding citations statewide during a 24-hour stretch that began Tuesday morning — including 200 tickets issued to drivers traveling over 100 mph.
In total, officers issued 19,564 citations for various violations and gave out 2,807 warnings.
The CHP emphasizes that speeding is not just a violation but also one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes.
The agency urges drivers to follow posted speed limits, adjust their speed based on road and weather conditions, stay alert, and drive responsibly.
