A Greenfield man who admitted to having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl, which resulted in her pregnancy and the birth of a child, has been sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. The Hancock Circuit Court case focused on contacts that investigators claim occurred in 2024.
Keith A. Collins, 35, pleaded guilty to two charges of Level 4 sexual misconduct with a minor and received two ten-year sentence terms, which were ordered to run consecutively for a total of 20 years, according to The Greenfield Reporter. According to the publication, the deal was filed this spring, and the court ordered that the terms run consecutively.
The sentence was pronounced in Hancock Circuit Court, located at the county courthouse in downtown Greenfield. Judge Scott Sirk presides over the Circuit Court, and WRTV reports that he frequently handles felony cases there. The Hancock County website refers visitors to the state’s MyCase system, which provides access to docketed filings.
According to The Greenfield Reporter, the youngster informed detectives that she began sexual contact with Collins at the age of 14 in 2024, with encounters occurring in April, May, and July of the same year. According to the publication, a sexual-assault kit submitted in May 2024 matched Collins, and a referral from the Department of Child Services verified the teen’s pregnancy disclosure at Community East Hospital on October 31, 2024. Collins was eventually identified as the father through genetic testing, according to reports.
The court issued a no-contact order for the victim, which will remain in force throughout Collins’ term, and prosecutors say he will be compelled to register on the Indiana Sex & Violent Offender Registry after processing is completed. The Indiana Department of Correction maintains the registry, which provides public information about registered sexual and violent offenders in the state. The department also explains how the system works and how to search it.
Collins was represented by public defender Mark Manchak during the plea and sentence hearings. Prosecutors and members of the victim’s family told reporters they were pleased with the decision, and court documentation now places Collins in the custody of the Indiana Department of Correction to begin completing his 20-year sentence.
