A South Carolina man who frequently travels to Ohio for work has won a $1M prize from the Ohio Lottery, according to a press release.
After ending work, the man went to True North #119, 381 State Street, Conneaut, and bought two VIP Millions scratch-off tickets. Officials stated he didn’t win on the first ticket but became thrilled while scratching the second.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the winner thought he had won $1,000 after seeing the word “mil,” which means 1,000 in his native Spanish. As he continued to scratch the ticket and later scanned it using a mobile app, he found the prize was much larger.
The ticket was a top prize winner of $40,000 each year for 25 years, totaling $1 million. The winner picked the $500,000 cash option and will receive roughly $366,250 after paying applicable federal and state taxes.
According to lottery authorities, the winner intends to buy a small house and then invest the remainder. He also mentioned that he is considering migrating to Ohio.
VIP Millions is a $50 scratch-off game with several $1 million payouts. As of May 6, 2026, there were 12 top prizes left.
The Ohio Lottery has given more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
