Zephyrhills Man Facing 270 Years In Prison After Undercover Sting Uncovers Horrific Cache

Authorities have arrested a 69-year-old Zephyrhills man and taken him into the Pasco County Jail following an intensive undercover investigation into the digital distribution of illegal materials.

Frank Tonin is now facing 17 counts of possessing child sexual abuse materials and one count of inciting a sexual performance by a minor, all of which are second-degree crimes.

The investigation began in January 2026, when Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) officials launched a proactive operation to track down individuals who shared such content online. Investigators say they linked a specific IP address back to Tonin’s residence.

During the monitoring time, agents witnessed multiple files being shared from that address, including one video depicting a minor’s sexual performance.

The case came to a head on April 29, 2026, when FDLE agents carried out a search warrant at the property. After capturing a number of electronic devices, a forensic examination of the hardware revealed a vast collection of unlawful files. Investigators discovered that the victims ranged in age from toddlers to young teenagers and that the content contained pictures of animals.

“Every time this harmful content depicting innocent children is viewed or shared, the child is revictimized,” Attorney General James Uthmeier said in a statement following the arrest. “I’d want to applaud FDLE agents for their proactive policing, which resulted in the arrest of this child predator. Our prosecutors will continue to cooperate with law enforcement until every predator is apprehended and imprisoned.”

Tonin is now being held under a $850,000 bond. The legal stakes are quite high; if convicted on all charges, the 69-year-old faces up to 270 years in state jail. Special Counsel Rita Peters will handle the prosecution of the case in Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit.
