Texas officials said Monday that six illegal immigrants were found dead inside a cargo container along the southern border, with excessive heat being the most likely cause.
The Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that three males, one woman, and a 14-year-old kid were discovered deceased in the Union Pacific railyard in North Laredo.
The sixth individual has not yet been positively recognized.
According to investigators, the deceased were from Mexico and Honduras.
Investigators determined that the 29-year-old woman’s death was caused by hyperthermia after preliminary examinations.
While formal medical evaluations for the remaining five people are forthcoming, officials stated that hyperthermia was the “highly probable” cause of death for the entire group.
The Webb County Medical Examiner’s Office is working closely with the Mexican Consulate to contact the migrants’ families, establish their final identities, and aid the repatriation process.
