Florida Woman Turns 10 Bucks Into A 2 Million Dollar Reality

A 33-year-old Pahokee woman’s life was altered with a simple stop for a Scratch-Off ticket. Lekisha Epps went to the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee on January 20 to accept the $2 million top prize from the 100X THE CASH game.

On Wednesday, the Florida Lottery announced that Epps purchased the winning $10 ticket at the Kwik Stop on 379 Bacom Point Road in her hometown. When it came time to collect, she chose the one-time lump-sum payout, leaving with $1,111,700.00.

The game Epps played, 100X THE CASH, debuted with nearly $243.4 million in total cash prizes. According to lottery authorities, the game still has more than ten top prizes of $2 million, with the overall odds of winning any reward being 1-in-3.49.

While individual wins like this get the attention, the Florida Lottery points out that these games fund a far wider objective. Since its founding in 1988, the organization has invested more than $50 billion in Florida’s education system.

This funding goes to the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has helped over a million students attend state schools and universities.

The Lottery currently reinvests 99 percent of its revenue in the state through prize money, retailer commissions at nearly 13,600 sites, and education transfers. To date, the Florida Lottery has awarded over $106.5 billion in prizes and created more than 4,521 millionaires.
