3 discovered dead in murder-suicide at Indiana home

Three people were discovered dead in a murder-suicide after the shooter indicated suicidal concerns to a family member, authorities said.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a welfare check at a property in southern Indiana on Wednesday after a Mississippi man reported that his brother had stated suicidal thoughts to him over the phone earlier that day.

Deputies discovered a dead man on the front porch, identified as Brett Dixon, 36, according to the sheriff’s department.

According to the sheriff’s office, Melissa Cochran Dixon, 54, and Paul Dixon, 61, were also discovered deceased inside the home.

Brett Dixon was shot twice in the chest and head, Melissa Cochran Dixon received a single gunshot wound to the head, and Paul Dixon suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office believes Paul Dixon is responsible for the shootings and reports no threat to the community or suspect at large.This is a devastating loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families, extended families, and friends,” the sheriff’s office stated in a statement.
