Woman discovered in Phoenix roadway dies after hit-and-run

A woman was pronounced dead following a hit-and-run in Phoenix over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

The Phoenix Police Department said officers responded to reports of an injured person at 27th and Michigan avenues around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Erika Monique Garcia, 39, was found unresponsive on the highway.

First responders from the Phoenix Fire Department transported Garcia to a local hospital, where she was declared dead.

A witness informed authorities that they spotted Garcia lying or leaning over in the roadway’s crossing, and when they returned, she was still there, seeming to have been hit by a car.

However, the driver who reportedly hit Garcia left the scene.
