A man from Prescott Valley was found guilty of driving under the influence of methamphetamine with a 12-year-old passenger, authorities said Tuesday.
The Yavapai County Attorney’s Office reports that on May 14, a jury convicted 45-year-old Robert Casimer Luft.
He was found guilty on the following charges:
- Possession or use of dangerous drugs (methamphetamine)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Aggravated DUI with a passenger under 15
- Child abuse
“Impaired driving is not a harmless mistake. It is a reckless act that endangers everyone on the road,” Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane said in the announcement. “I have seen families shattered in an instant because someone selfishly chose alcohol or drugs over responsibility.”

Luft faces criminal allegations stemming from an incident on August 8, 2024.
Deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office observed Luft driving recklessly on Highway 69 and Agua Fria Road near the town of Dewey-Humboldt, according to prosecutors.
The deputy stopped Luft and administered a DUI test. Law enforcement discovered methamphetamine in both Luft’s pocket and his bloodstream.
His sentencing is planned for June 30.
