Florida Woman Sentenced To Prison In Viral Costco Gas Station Axe-fight Case

A Miami gas station dispute that escalated into a violent, weapon-wielding street fight was resolved in court, with the primary aggressor dodging prison time but facing years of strict court supervision.

Valeria Aguilar, 29, pleaded guilty on April 29 to burglary, assault, and violence. A Florida judge then sentenced her to two years of supervised community control, followed by an extra five years on probation.

The legal resolution stemmed from an incident that occurred on March 25 at a Miami Costco gas station. According to police affidavits, Aguilar was filling up her car when she started yelling at a gas station attendant and other customers.

The disturbance attracted the attention of a nearby vehicle in a Subaru Forester, who pulled over to confront Aguilar and informed the attendant that Aguilar’s Costco membership should be cancelled.

Upset by the statement, Aguilar pursued the Subaru on foot before getting into her own car and following the woman to a nearby crossroads. When both vehicles came to a stop, Aguilar approached the Subaru and began hitting and scratching the driver through the open window.

However, the driver was armed with an axe multitool. Defending herself, the Subaru driver punched Aguilar in the face and arms with the tool. The resulting altercation left both women with cuts and lacerations before the Subaru driver fled the scene and police arrived.

Aguilar was initially treated for her injuries before being placed into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and ordered held without bond. With her recent guilty plea and sentencing, Aguilar escapes jail time but must now follow the rigorous terms of her seven-year community control and probation sentence.
