Someone in Upstate NY won $1M a year for life after buying a lottery ticket at Price Chopper

A lottery ticket sold in Upstate New York won someone the top prize in the Millionaire for Life game, making them only the second person nationwide to win the $1 million-a-year-for-life jackpot.

The New York Lottery reported that the winning ticket for Thursday’s drawing was purchased at a Price Chopper in Richfield Springs, Otsego County.

The ticket matched all six numbers (3, 15, 16, 24, 28, and Millionaire Ball 4).

The highest reward is either a for-life annuity or a one-time lump sum payout of $18 million.

This is only the second top prize victory since Millionaire for Life debuted in February, replacing Cash4Life. The first jackpot winner was a player from Ohio who won on April 27.

Players buy $5 tickets and choose five numbers from 1 to 58, plus one Millionaire Ball number from 1 to 5. The game includes daily drawings and is now available in 31 jurisdictions.

The May 21 drawing also resulted in a Match 5 ticket sold in Michigan that won $100,000 a year for life.

Every Millionaire for Life ticket sold helps fund programs in the jurisdiction where the ticket was purchased. Winning tickets are valid for one year from the date of the drawing.
