Driver sentenced to 9 years in crash that killed 3, including 10-year-old, in Hamilton

HAMILTON, Ohio — A driver received a prison sentence Monday for a crash in Hamilton that killed a family of three and was allegedly linked to a road rage incident.

Authorities indicted 41-year-old Brandon Begley of Fairfield Township earlier this year on three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Begley initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea and pleaded guilty to all three aggravated vehicular homicide charges.

On Monday, Judge Michael Oster Jr. sentenced Begley to three years on each count, resulting in a total prison term of nine years. The court credited him with 124 days already served and permanently suspended his driver’s license.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 near the intersection of River Road and Hooven Avenue.

According to police, Begley was weaving through traffic on River Road when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on.

Investigators said Begley’s speedometer was frozen at 80 mph. He suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The coroner identified the victims as 35-year-old Milton Alvarez Lagos, 27-year-old Bety Salazar Lopez, and 10-year-old Milton Salazar Alvarez.

Police said Begley was arrested after a weekslong investigation suggested the fatal crash may have been connected to a road rage incident.
