After nearly a month of investigation, Livonia Police said they apprehended a man in a hazmat suit who attempted to enter a house at Bristol Court and Newburgh Road on May 13.
A person clad in a hazmat suit attempted to enter a residence in Livonia on Wednesday and was recorded on camera.
Police claimed they were able to identify and arrest the individual on June 6. His identity was not publicized until a formal arraignment. The Livonia Police Department would like to acknowledge the outstanding work and dedication of our investigators, who have worked tirelessly over the last several weeks to identify and apprehend the suspect,” the department said in a statement.
A man wearing a white jumpsuit, long white overcoat, or painter’s suit allegedly attempted to break into a Livonia home in broad daylight last month.
Victoria, the homeowner’s 31-year-old daughter, claims the incident occurred at 10 a.m. She came home from work and let the dogs out. She proceeded to the back porch and said she noticed the man attempting to undo the gate.
She questioned him, “Why are you here?”
She also realized he was holding a screwdriver and promptly punched the emergency button on her phone. She claims that he then grabbed the neckline of her shirt and forced her backward toward the neighbor’s house.
He then raced away, removing his costume.
Police responded promptly, deploying a K9 unit and a drone to locate the perpetrator.
Victoria claims she was not wounded, but she is grateful the situation did not worsen.
Formal charges and an arraignment are set to be filed early next week.
