Dinner run turns into $100,000 lottery win for Baltimore County man

A Baltimore County man known for cooking meals for family and friends turned a normal trip to buy dinner items into a $100,000 lotto win after purchasing a scratch-off ticket during the visit.

The Pikesville resident won a $100,000 top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Bingo X10 Scratch-Off game after purchasing the winning ticket at Dollar Plus Mart, 8011 Liberty Road in Windsor Mill.

According to lottery organizers, the man bought the $10 ticket while shopping for groceries to cook for a friend. He was well-known among relatives and friends for his food, particularly his stewed oxtails, so he set the ticket aside and did not immediately scratch it.

Several days later, he checked the ticket and realized he might have won a large prize.

He showed the ticket to his mother, who is a big fan of Scratch-Off games. She reviewed the ticket and determined that it was a top-prize winner worth $100,000.

The winner told lottery authorities that the timing was critical because he had been trying to pay off debts and had lately moved in with his parents to save money.

The winner, an Amazon employee, stated that he intended to use the prize money to buy a vehicle and pay expenses.

He took the bus to the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to receive the win.

Dollar Plus Mart, the merchant that sold the winning ticket, will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Bingo X10 debuted in March with six top prizes totaling $100,000. According to lottery authorities, this is the second top prize taken, with four remaining in the game.
